Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust

Teaching an NHS internal communications team how to film and edit great-looking smartphone videos.

The brief.

Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust's mission is to provide outstanding care and treatment, to share and spread new knowledge and practice and to always be at the forefront of what is possible.

The Trust wanted to upskill its in-house internal communications teams so that they could film and edit news reports, patient stories and clinical case studies using just their smartphones.

I was asked to deliver a one-day smartphone video training course at the Trust's headquarters to five members of its communications department.

The solution.

The group were encouraged to consider how and where they wanted to use video, and how to build it into their communications strategies.

Next, we discussed the importance of storytelling. We considered how to bring their amazing patients's stories to life with emotive filmmaking.

The group learned how to film great-looking video footage using their smartphones, and how to capture high quality audio using inexpensive audio accessories.

The team were also shown how to edit engaging case studies and capture powerful interviews with people who aren't used to being in front of the camera.
"I believe it's vital for in-house marketing and comms teams to develop video content creation skills. I'm passionate about teaching delegates how to take their videos to the next level."
